Who we are

Clearity Care offers diagnostics after a miscarriage, in collaboration with Amsterdam UMC. Clearity Care is the data controller for your personal data. Principal investigator: Dr B.S. de Bakker.

Why we do this

The cause of many miscarriages remains unknown. By examining tissue and blood, we aim to give parents more clarity and to improve care around miscarriage for future parents.

Who can take part

You must be 18 years or older. If the father or partner donates blood, he signs the consent form too.

What we ask of you

  • The tissue from the miscarriage.
  • A finger prick blood sample and a blood spot card from the mother.
  • If applicable, a finger prick blood sample from the father.
  • The signed consent form.

You bring everything in the Clearity Care box to the Emergency Department of Amsterdam UMC, location AMC, yourself (24/7).

What you pay for

You pay for the diagnostic examination. You do not receive payment for donating tissue or blood.

Your result

You receive the result of the diagnostic examination by email. Sometimes we find something unexpected that may matter for your health or your family's, such as a hereditary predisposition. On the consent form you choose whether you want to be informed about this. If you do, we will contact you and can refer you to a clinical geneticist.

Donation to the miscarriage biobank (optional)

You can choose to also donate the tissue and blood for storage in the miscarriage biobank and further scientific research, to improve care around miscarriage. This is voluntary: if you choose no, you still receive your result. Material is stored for 50 years. Fully anonymised data, which can never be traced back to you, may also be used for commercial purposes, such as developing better diagnostics.

Privacy

Your material and data are labelled only with an Inclusion Number. Your name and contact details are stored separately and securely, and used only to send you the result. Only Clearity Care holds the key that links the number to your details. The signed consent form is kept and archived digitally. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your data. See our privacy statement: [LINK]. Data protection officer: [CONTACT].

Donated material cannot be returned

Once you have handed in the Clearity Care box, the material cannot be returned to you.

Withdrawing your consent

You can withdraw your consent at any time, without giving a reason, by sending an email to [CONTACT E-MAIL]. Material and data that have already been used or fully anonymised can no longer be retrieved.
